Alia Sajani is the 2024 AAAS Mass Media Fellow at STAT. She recently graduated with a Ph.D. in immunology from Dartmouth, where she studied how the immune system safeguards health, but sometimes also contributes to autoimmunity. Prior to graduate school, Alia was a research fellow at the National Institutes of Health, studying how HIV changes immune cells in the gut. Previously, she wrote for Immunobites, the NIH Catalyst, and the National Association of Science Writers. Alia is from Nairobi, Kenya, and is a tea enthusiast.
